How has the Project Team identified the socioeconomic resources that may be affected by the Route 250 Bypass at McIntire Road Project?
Existing and future land use data were obtained from the City of Charlottesville planning documents. The demographics of the population within and surrounding the project area, including number, age, race and ethnic background, income, education, household size, home ownership, growth trends, and travel characteristics were identified using data accessed on the US Census Bureau website. The locations of communities and community facilities were generally identified through the review of area maps, land use maps, planning maps, aerial photographs, and comprehensive plans. The locations of employment centers (retail, business, industrial) and the numbers of jobs in the project area were identified through a review of the area's land use and zoning maps as well as through the information extracted from the City of Charlottesville Department of Economic Development and US Census websites. What socioeconomic resources were identified that may be affected by the project?
Portions of three neighborhoods may be affected by the alternatives: Greenbrier (park area only), Locust Grove, and North Downtown. Specific communities that may be affected include the Birdwood-Hillside community south of the 250 Bypass and west of McIntire Road and the residents on Park Street north and south of the 250 Bypass. The Project Team identified the following community facilities that may be affected by the alternative.
The affects to these resources vary from visual to property acquisition, depending on the alternative being evaluated. The Project Team is currently evaluating these potential impacts and will describe these impacts on this site and in the Environmental Assessment document later this year. What are the potential impacts of the alternatives on socioeconomic resources?
